This major coastal protection program is part of a $32 million federally funded beach redevelopment project to build and strengthen Duval County beaches.

The Army Corps of Engineers said it will store heavy dredging equipment in Atlantic Beach between 17th and 18th streets for the Fourth of July.

Crews will move equipment and resume work on the project on July 5.

Once operations resume, crews will continue placing sand by moving south to reach the northernmost extent of the previously completed section, then reverse direction and build the beach by moving north toward Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park.
