Romanian team leaves thank you note in dressing room before leaving EURO 2024

Romania exited the EURO 2024 football tournament on July 2 after losing to the Netherlands 0-3 in the round of 16. Before leaving, however, the team left a sparkling clean dressing room and a touching thank-you note to the organizers.

“EURO 2024 has been, for each of us, one of the most important football experiences ever lived, and we are happy to say today that it has been a great honour. Every match, every moment lived here has inspired us and made us feel the magic of football,” reads the message left by the Romanian team in the locker room.

“We leave Germany feeling like we gave our all for Romania and we are grateful to have been part of the great European football family for these two weeks. It was an honour to be part of the great European football family. Thank you for making us feel at home!”

With four goals scored in the group stage, Romania finished top of their EURO group for the first time this year and qualified for the EURO round of 16 for the first time since EURO 2000. The excellent performance at this year’s tournament also earned the team the nickname “the generation of the Romanian soul”. Around 125,000 fans attended Romania’s four matches at EURO 2024, ranking third after Germany and Turkey.

Romania are yet to win the UEFA European Championship. This is their second successful EURO group stage appearance out of a total of six.

The team is expected to return to Bucharest on the evening of Wednesday, July 3.
