Wyoming man charged with shooting into occupied room below him at Fillmore Hotel

FILLMORE — A Wyoming man was arrested Wednesday and charged with firing a bullet through the floor of his Utah hotel room, which struck the room below him.

Alexander Charles Skovgard, 26, of Casper, Wyoming, was arrested and charged later in the day in 4th District Court with unlawful discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony; carrying a weapon while under the influence of alcohol, a Class B misdemeanor; and drunkenness, a Class C misdemeanor.

Millard County Sheriff’s deputies were initially called to a Fillmore hotel for a report of a gunshot. When they arrived, they found a husband and wife in one of the rooms.

“They took me to their bedroom where there appeared to be a bullet hole in the ceiling and the mirror on the wall was broken. The couple reported hearing a gunshot and seeing the debris from the ceiling and mirror while they were in bed. The couple appeared very upset and reported being scared,” according to the police report.

A deputy then went to check the bedroom above the couple’s and saw Skovgard first standing in the doorway and then closing the door as officers approached, the affidavit states. A deputy looked out the window and saw Skovgard sitting on a bed with a handgun next to him.

“When Alexander opened the door, I held him back and explained why I was there. Alexander smelled of alcohol, he had difficulty speaking, and he had difficulty keeping his balance. Alexander also did not understand why I was there. I saw an empty shell casing on the floor and several open bottles of alcohol,” the statement reads.

Skovgard was arrested shortly afterwards.
