Rolling Stones Consider Copacabana Return

The Rolling Stones have been offered another concert on Copacabana Beach, meaning they could reclaim their record for concert attendance, which was surpassed by Madonna.

The Queen of Pop wrapped up her Celebration Tour in May by performing her biggest concert yet in front of an estimated 1.6 million fans at Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro.

In 2006, the British rock veterans performed at the venue in front of 1.5 million people during their A Bigger Bang tour.

Daniel Grinbank, who organised the concert 19 years ago, contacted the Stones to see if they would be interested in playing in South America again.

“The Stones have a huge following in South America and there is a possibility they will stage their Hackney Diamonds tour there in 2025,” a source told The Sun newspaper.

“The reception to the North American shows has been huge and Mick, Keith and Ronnie always look forward to going.

“Daniel approached them about coming back to South America for a few shows and thinks another show at Copacabana 19 years later could see the Stones take the record back from Madonna.

“Discussions are ongoing, but if anything is announced, it won’t be until after the band has completed their North American tour.”

Rod Stewart’s 1994 Copacabana show remains the largest free concert in history with an audience of 3.5 million people.

The Stones are set to take a break after wrapping up their North American tour in Missouri on July 21.
