Rescue teams have urgent message after two emergency calls at Zion National Park

ST. GEORGE — First responders issued a critical warning after two back-to-back rescues in Zion National Park Sunday afternoon.

Sergeant Darrell Cashin of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the Zion National Park Search and Rescue team first responded to an emergency call at The Narrows.

On Sunday, around 4:22 p.m., another report came in of an injured hiker at the left turn of The Subway. Emergency responders were alerted by a text message from 911. However, precise coordinates could not be obtained from the message; instead, it was sent by a tower in Apple Valley, indicating that he was about 14 miles northeast of that location.

“This could have happened anywhere from Zion, Springdale, Rockville, Kolob Terrace, anywhere in this area,” Cashin said. “How do you go all over this country looking for someone who needs help?”
