The influx of creatives into this mountain town comeThe city lights up every Second Saturday, when SAA-affiliated galleries host open houses, artist demonstrations and other celebrations that highlight the city’s artistic trend. This summer, Heartwood Gallery will join in the fun with two meet-the-artist events. On July 13, the venue will host local potter Robin Kirby. According to Kirby,an artistIn her statement, she uses stoneware clay to create surprisingly utilitarian vessels. “I want each piece to be functional in your life and I take great care to ensure that every detail is thought out while maintaining my artistic vision, from the size of a handle to the curve of a cup’s rim,” Kirby writes. On August 10, Heartwood will welcome Jane Voorhees from Asheville. Using watercolor and gouache, Voorhees captures the “the essence and mood” of the mountains she calls home and the North Carolina coast where she spent her formative years. The combination of these two mediums can provide a versatile palette for expressing the nuances of natural landscapes,” Voorhees tells Made in AshevilleBoth artist meet-and-greet events take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
