Gold Star’s wife to Newsmax: Biden’s silence ‘disconcerting’

Gold Star widow Ashley Southard said Thursday it was “baffling” that she had not heard directly from President Joe Biden about her husband’s death, telling Newsmax that all she had received from his administration were “copy-and-paste letters.”

Sergeant Andy Southard, of Apache Junction, Arizona, died last November in a helicopter crash in the Mediterranean Sea during what the Defense Department called routine flight training.

“I received several copy-and-pasted letters from the administration to myself and my children over the next few months. But I haven’t heard directly from the president,” Ashley Southard told “Wake Up America.”

She described her husband as “pure sunshine,” telling talk show host Rob Finnerty that “it would have been an honor for Joe Biden to know or say his name.”

In addition to hearing Biden say during last week’s debate that no U.S. service members had died during his time as president, an outright lie that angered Gold Star families like hers, Ashley Southard now says, in hindsight, it’s also surprising that she hasn’t heard from the commander in chief.

“At that point, I was a little overwhelmed by everything that was going on, so I’m not sure I expected it to happen so soon,” she said. “But looking back, as my husband’s boss, as commander in chief, as a man who has made decisions that impact families like mine throughout our military, it was daunting.”
