Traffic stop on I-40 leads to drugs, two arrests in Carson County

More than 10 pounds of suspected cocaine were seized and two people were arrested during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon in Carson County, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said.

On Thursday, July 4, at approximately 5:39 p.m., a Texas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a 2024 Ford Edge traveling east on I-40 near Groom for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper found five bricks wrapped in duct tape containing suspected cocaine concealed in the trunk.

DPS special agents then assisted in the investigation.

The driver, identified as Patris Mundy, 58, and the passenger, Danelle Hopkins, 44, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, were arrested and booked into the Carson County Jail on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The drugs were reportedly transported from Phoenix, Arizona, to an unknown destination in Indiana.
