Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence following Portugal’s elimination from Euro 2024 on Friday night, and insisted he deserved better.

Portugal and France played a tense match where nothing separated the two teams, but the French qualified for the semi-finals against Spain thanks to a 5-3 victory on penalties.

Ronaldo scored in the penalty shootout as he had against Slovenia, but this time Diogo Costa failed to show his heroics and Joao Felix missed the crucial spot kick when his shot hit the post.

It was Ronaldo’s last game at a European Championship and could have been his last with Portugal.

The 39-year-old was seen consoling Pepe at the end of the game with the veteran defender in tears following the defeat, and the Al-Nassr man took to social media to break his silence following Portugal’s elimination.

Ronaldo posted a series of photos on Instagram with the caption:

“We wanted more. We deserved more. For us. For each of you. For Portugal. We are grateful for everything you have given us and for everything we have achieved so far,” he wrote.

“On and off the field, I am confident that this legacy will be honored and continue to be built. Together.”

Ronaldo had a stellar career with Portugal, scoring 130 goals in 212 appearances, culminating in victory at Euro 2016.

The former Real Madrid star failed to score from open play at the tournament, missing a penalty in extra time against Slovenia.
