Nashik: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrested a deputy executive engineer of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh on Friday. The class-2 officer is from the Pimpalgaon sub-division of the power utility in Niphad taluka. The deputy executive engineer was produced before the court on Saturday, which remanded him in judicial custody for three days, an ACB statement said. The complainant in the case had a shop with a commercial electricity meter installed for his establishment. However, he needed an industrial electricity meter, which is why he had approached the deputy engineer. The MSEDCL officer told the shopkeeper that he would help him get the new meter without any legal procedure at a cost of Rs 1 lakh as bribe. The shopkeeper then approached the ACB, Nashik, to lodge a complaint. The ACB officials verified the complaint and on Friday, laid a trap. The assistant engineer accepted the bribe in front of witnesses and was arrested by the ACB officials.
