John Cena Announces Retirement From WWE

John Cena, one of the most popular professional wrestlers of the last two decades, has announced that his WWE career as a competitor will end in 2025 and that WrestleMania in Las Vegas will be his last.

Cena made a surprise appearance at WWE’s Money in the Bank event Saturday night in Toronto to announce a farewell tour of sorts.

The 16-time WWE Champion has made sporadic appearances in the wrestling ring in recent years as his value as a Hollywood actor continues to grow.

During a press conference Saturday night, Cena revealed that he plans to work 30 to 40 dates for WWE next year, from January to December.

Cena has recently stated in interviews over the past few months that his wrestling career is coming to an end soon, stressing that he doesn’t want to compete past his prime. Cena is 47 years old.

The Boston-area native has mentioned that he will compete in the 2025 Royal Rumble and the Elimination Chamber before WrestleMania 41. He will also be part of WWE’s flagship television program RAW when it transitions to Netflix next year.

Cena’s last appearance in WWE was during the WrestleMania 40 festivities, where he came to the aid of Cody Rhodes as he wrestled Roman Reigns for the title. Cena faced his longtime rival Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in that bout.

WrestleMania 2025 will take place on Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
