WWE Legend Announces Shocking Decision

WWE loses a legend to retirement.

Sixteen-time world champion John Cena announced his retirement from sports entertainment with a heartfelt speech on WWE’s Money in the Bank in Toronto.

Cena said it was the perfect place to announce his decision.

Cena then assured fans that he will be there when WWE makes the jump to Netflix next year.

“This is ancient history, this is a first and I will be there,” he said, prompting a raucous reaction from the crowd.

Cena’s departure won’t be immediate either. Cena has said he will compete in the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and of course Wrestlemania next year.

The crowd serenaded the wrestler, chanting “Thank you Cena.”

Speaking to USA Today, Cena later clarified that he would be “fully” involved with the sports-entertainment league as it seeks to chart a new course without longtime chairman Vince McMahon, who is facing multiple lawsuits related to allegations of disturbing sexual misconduct.

“But as far as being in the ring and falling down and taking a beating, time is limited on that one,” Cena said.

Cena made his WWE debut in 2002, though his first dominant schtick was as a “trashy rapper when he was dubbed ‘Doctor of Thuganomics,'” livenowfox.com reported.

Cena is currently 47 years old.
