Jeremy Clarkson ‘offered nearly £1m for Cotswolds pub within minutes of meeting landlord’

Jeremy Clarkson ‘offered nearly £1m for Cotswolds pub within minutes of meeting landlord’

Jeremy Clarkson was reportedly “so determined” to buy a village pub that he offered the landlord almost £1million shortly after they first met.

The 64-year-old TV personality recently hit the headlines with the purchase of the Windmill pub near Burford in Oxfordshire. Clarkson is understood to have secured the freehold of the venue, which is notably not linked to any brewery.

This independence could allow him to sell his own beer and farm produce at the pub, ideally located around fifteen kilometers from his Diddly Squat farm.

The pub is currently undergoing a renovation. Earlier this week, Jeremy hinted at the progress in an Instagram post: “A new pub is coming. All that’s left to do is sort out the water, gas, toilets, staff and electrics and we’ll be ready to go.”

According to MailOnline, Clarkson was “so determined” to take over the local bar that he made an offer of “nearly £1 million” within moments of meeting the owner. It’s worth noting that Jeremy himself had previously discussed acquiring the property for “less than £1 million”, the Mirror reports.

Jackie Walker, 79, who reportedly launched the pub in 1983 with her late husband Alan Walker, hadn’t even put the property up for sale when she was approached with Jeremy’s unexpected proposal, which quickly progressed to a deal being concluded shortly after they met. She told the publication how a film crew entered her pub and before she knew it, a business partner of Jeremy’s was at her door, asking if she would consider selling.
