Peter Sarsgaard is offered more interesting roles as he gets older

Peter Sarsgaard was offered “more interesting” roles as he got older.

The 52-year-old actor revealed he feels “grateful to be a man” in Hollywood, as his female counterparts are more likely to be judged on their appearance.

Peter, who is married to film star Maggie Gyllenhaal, told The Independent: “I’m so grateful to be a man!

“I was there, listening to Maggie and this woman talk about how difficult it is to be an actress as you get older. That kind of thing is always revealing.

“As I’ve gotten older, the roles I’ve been offered have become more interesting. As a man, I take a lot of things for granted.”

Maggie, 46, has tried her hand at directing in recent years, and Peter was impressed by how she managed to “reinvent herself”.

He said: “I’m extremely proud of what my wife has done, which is to completely reinvent herself. But for those who know her, it’s not really a surprise.”

Peter starred in Maggie’s 2021 directorial debut, “The Lost Daughter,” and he relished the experience of working with his wife.

The actor shared: “I feel like I’m the lucky one. Lucky to have Maggie! Because now I have my own director who’s going to put me in his movies.

“I always wanted to work with someone again and again, to make that relationship deeper and more interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever worked with the same director more than once. My wife is the only one!”

Despite this, Peter and Maggie do not actually discuss their work when they are at home.

He said: “We’re shooting ‘The Bride’ in early April.

“I know Maggie talks to some of the other actors in the film, but she and I have barely said anything. She just knows that’s not the way I work. I read a script a lot. Then I dream about all the things that aren’t in it.”
