The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a statement regarding the CUET-UG exam, saying: “The NTA is also responding to public grievances regarding the CUET-UG examination that were received till June 30. If any grievance is found to be valid, the NTA is committed to re-conducting the examination for such candidates at selected centres on any day between July 15 and 19.”

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday (July 3) arrested Aman Singh from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand for his alleged involvement. According to an ANI report, CBI sources have identified Singh as one of the leaders of the document leak racket. This is the seventh arrest made by the agency in the NEET-UG probe.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the results of the NEET UG 2024 make-up test, revealing a decline in the number of candidates who scored perfect marks. Of the 813 candidates who sat for the make-up test on June 23, which was originally 1,563, the number of candidates who scored the highest marks has come down from 67 to 61. The adjustment follows the disqualification of six candidates whose marks had initially reached a perfect score of 720/720 due to grace marks awarded for wasted examination time. Despite not scoring perfect marks in the make-up test, these candidates have maintained impressive scores above 680.

In a poignant appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has called for urgent action over the controversy over the alleged leak of papers surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 exam. Describing the issue as a “betrayal of a lifelong dream” for countless aspiring medical students, Gandhi highlighted the gravity of the situation faced by the affected candidates and their families.

The Supreme Court has sought clarification from the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the timeline for disposal of OMR paper grievances in the NEET UG 2024 exam. A bench comprising Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti issued the notice in response to a petition filed by coaching institution Xylem Learning Private Limited and several NEET aspirants.

Senior advocate R Basant, appearing for the petitioners, highlighted concerns that many students have not received their OMR sheets and raised issues of discrepancies between the calculations in the OMR sheets and those indicated in the answer key. “Several students are aggrieved,” Basant said during the proceedings.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the NEET-UG cases, listed as item 31, at 10.30 am today.

The Supreme Court, which closed for summer recess on May 18, reopens today with key hearings and verdicts expected on the agenda.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Sunday announced that a retest will be conducted for CUET-UG candidates from July 15 to 19, provided all grievances raised regarding the conduct of the exam are found valid.

A fresh appeal has been filed by 56 students seeking to restrain the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) from cancelling the controversial NEET UG exam.

In its submission to the Supreme Court, the NTA said: “Cancellation of the entire examination on the basis of the above factor would be extremely counterproductive and significantly prejudicial to public interest, particularly the career prospects of qualified candidates.”

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has claimed that during the Congress government’s tenure, 17 out of 19 recruitment exam papers were leaked, causing despair among the youth.

After the BJP formed the government, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up, leading to the arrest of 108 people involved in the leaks.

He also mentioned the ongoing recruitment for 70,000 posts and the establishment of Yuva Saathi centres to help in the career development of youth. State president CP Joshi criticised the previous Congress government for its lack of development work, contrasting it with the BJP’s focus on public welfare and development under Sharma.

In the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, as the opposition expressed concerns over the leakage of NEET papers in Parliament, Prime Minister Modi said the government was working on a war footing to curb incidents of paper leaks, while asserting that those who play with the future of the youth will not be spared.

Responding to the President’s motion of thanks, the Prime Minister said the government was “very serious” in putting an end to such incidents. “Those who have played with the future of students will not be spared. Arrests have been made across the country in connection with NEET,” he said.

NEET UG counselling is the process through which candidates who have cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG) are allotted seats in medical and dental colleges across India. This process is administered by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for seats under the All India Quota (AIQ) and by the respective state counselling authorities for seats under the National Quota.

The counselling schedule for NEET UG and PG is announced by the MCC on its website based on the completion of the examination process and finalisation of the seat matrix by the National Medical Commission (NMC). In the years 2021, 2022 and 2023, the counselling for UG seats has started on 19 January 2022, 11 October 2022 and 20 July 2023, respectively.

“For the year 2024, the NMC has notified its schedule for finalisation of seat matrix for UG and PG seats in the last week of June, stating that it will finalise the UG seat matrix by the third week of July and the PG seat matrix by mid-August. The MCC will notify the counselling schedule accordingly,” an official MCC notification said.

In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the Centre said: “In the absence of any evidence of large-scale breach of confidentiality in a pan-India examination, it would not be rational to cancel the examination in its entirety and the results already declared.”

A huge political controversy erupted after the results of this year’s NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) were announced on June 4. The results immediately caught the attention of several students who expressed concerns over irregularities in the awarding of marks. They alleged that mark inflation had resulted in 67 candidates scoring a perfect 720/720 and securing the record first rank. Six of these first-place candidates came from the same examination centre in Haryana.
