Prince Harry is not as enthusiastic as he once was about receiving the Pat Tillman Award following the backlash.

The Duke of Sussex is set to receive the famous award for his contribution to the Invictus Games at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on July 11.

However, the announcement sparked some nervousness among the public, including the late war hero’s mother, Mary Tillman.

“I’m shocked why they chose such a controversial, divisive individual to receive this award,” she said of the honor, which is named after the former NFL star who gave up his athletic career for the U.S. military.

Sources have now told the Telegraph that Harry was “stunned” by the negative reaction.

“It’s a bitter pill to swallow when the Duke of Sussex is criticised for anything to do with his military background and his work with veterans. Harry’s legacy on Invictus, the things he’s achieved, that’s his real passion,” they said.

The source added: “It’s the space he really feels at home in, it’s something he cares about deeply. The reaction has certainly taken the shine off the award.”
