Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced that a former Premier League star has been demoted to AC Milan’s youth team after being told he is no longer part of the club’s plans.

Since hanging up his boots after a second spell with the Rossoneri in 2023, Ibrahimovic has served as a senior advisor to the Serie A club and has clearly retained his trademark abrasive nature in his new role.

After finishing a distant second behind leaders Inter last season, Stefano Pioli has made it his mission to improve his side for the season ahead.

One player who could have played a role is former Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who returns to the San Siro after spending last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old has reportedly signed a four-year contract after joining Milan on a free transfer from the Reds in 2022.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced that a senior player will play no part in AC Milan’s first-team plans for the coming season.
Former Liverpool star Divock Origi has two years remaining on his current contract with the Serie A club.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest where he failed to make an impact.

However, according to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Ibrahimovic has made it clear that the Belgian will not be part of Milan’s first-team plans this season.

“Divock Origi and Fodé Ballo-Touré are not part of our plans,” he said. “They will be part of the youth team because they are not part of our project.”

Origi’s first Serie A campaign was hampered by injuries and he was limited to just ten starts, with Pioli preferring players like Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao.

Never particularly prolific as a striker, Origi struggled at the City Ground after joining Forest on deadline day in September.

In 22 appearances in all competitions he scored just one goal, and the loan looked set to be cut short in January, with several MLS sides reportedly interested before negotiations broke down.
