Rob Reiner Urges Joe Biden to End His Campaign: ‘It’s Time to Stop Messing Around’

On Sunday, the “Stand by Me” and “When Harry Met Sally” director urged the party leader to “abandon” his re-election bid in a fiery message on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“It’s time to stop messing around. If the convict wins, we lose our democracy,” wrote Reiner, who has supported Biden so far and is a major donor to the Democratic Party. “Joe Biden has served the United States with honor, decency and dignity. It’s time for Joe Biden to resign.”

On Monday, author Stephen King joined Reiner and a host of other celebrities, including showrunner Damon Lindelof and Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings, in calling on Biden to drop out of the race over fears he could lose the election to Donald Trump.

“Joe Biden has been a good president, but it is time for him – for the sake of the America he so clearly loves – to announce that he will not seek re-election,” King wrote on X.

Reiner and King’s comments come after Biden’s mental acuity and abilities have been heavily questioned recently, particularly after his volatile debate performance against Trump last month, which sparked concern among Democrats in Congress.

Since the debate, Biden has defended himself, insisting he could win against Trump and lead the country for another four years.

“I’m the most qualified person to beat him, and I know how to get things done,” Biden told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in an interview last week.

He also explained his poor performance in the debate by saying: “It was a bad episode, there was no indication of any serious health problem. I was exhausted.”

Despite everything, Biden insisted that he has no desire to leave the race.

“If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get out of the race,’ I would get out of the race,” he said. “But the Lord Almighty will not come down.”
