Comic-Con Announces One-Year Contract Extension, Staying at SD Through 2026

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With just one year left on its contract, Comic-Con has announced it will stay in San Diego through 2026.

Comic-Con is a must-see event in San Diego. Hundreds of thousands of pop culture fans from around the world flock to the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp District each year. The money raised outside of the city then boosts the local economy as attendees spend their money on food, lodging, and shopping at small businesses.

However, this is not the first time that the future of Comic-Con and its plans to remain in San Diego have been uncertain.

Comic-Con has continued to extend its contract in previous years, despite claiming that the venue, the San Diego Convention Center, had become too small to accommodate its many attendees.

This year’s delay in negotiations with the city was due to negotiations over room blocks and hotel rates within those blocks, according to David Glanzer, director of communications and strategy.

ABC 10News reached out to Mayor Todd Gloria’s office for a statement but has not yet received a response.
