Key Chicago Bears Locker Room Leader Backs Caleb Williams

Key Chicago Bears Locker Room Leader Backs Caleb Williams

One of the biggest questions facing Caleb Williams after the Chicago Bears selected him first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft was how the team, as a whole, would handle the transition from Justin Fields, the face of the franchise, to Williams.

Fields was not only popular with Bears fans, he was also well-received in the team’s locker room. Before the Bears officially made the switch, veteran executives like Jaylon Johnson were vocal about wanting Fields to remain the Bears’ starting quarterback.

Of course, at the time, that’s what Johnson and other Bears players had to say, given that Fields was still their teammate, and to say otherwise would have caused more controversy.

A few months into the Williams era with the Bears, Johnson had nothing but praise for Williams in his interview with Jim Rome.

Almost instantly after being drafted by Williams, the rookie quarterback put aside the idea that he didn’t want to be in Chicago. Williams quickly embraced Chicago, including being scouted at Wrigleyville venues, attending Cubs games and showing up for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Sky Games. Being good at quarterback is certainly what will be Williams’ true evaluation, but he’s successfully becoming the face of a franchise in the nation’s third-largest market.

Along with this, Williams was quickly embraced by his Bears teammates. It just goes to show that the stories of disgruntled fans on social media are often not true in reality.

Training camp begins next Tuesday when rookies report to Halas Hall, but it’s important to note that Williams has yet to sign his rookie contract. However, there’s no real concern that Williams won’t be signed by next Tuesday.
