Meghan Markle’s ESPYS Look May Have Been Inspired By Her Stella McCartney Wedding Reception Dress

Did the Duchess of Sussex do a double take on one of her wedding dresses?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended the 2024 ESPYS in style, and she may have taken inspiration from one of her most memorable looks.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, joined her husband, 39, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on July 11 for the awards ceremony, where the Duke of Sussex was honored as this year’s recipient of the Pat Tillman Service Award.

Meghan Markle dressed up for the evening in a white halter dress paired with strappy black sandals. The gown bore a striking resemblance to the one she wore to her royal wedding reception in 2018.

After wearing a custom Givenchy creation by Clare Waight Keller for her walk down the aisle, Meghan donned a high-necked “lily white” gown with an eye-catching open back for the evening.

On both occasions, the Duchess of Sussex wore her hair tied back and parted in the middle.

Talk to The Guardian Ahead of the royal couple’s wedding in 2018, McCartney (who is the daughter of rock ‘n’ roll king Sir Paul McCartney and the late musician Linda McCartney) was careful not to reveal that she was, in fact, one of two trusted British designers chosen to create Meghan’s bridal look.

“How many designers have you said that to today?” she asked in response to the newspaper’s reporter who asked her if she had attended the ceremony.

At the ESPYs, Prince Harry accepted the Pat Tillman Service Award, which recognized his work with military personnel and veterans through the Invictus Games, as the adaptive sports competition celebrates its 10th year.

Earlier in the show, tennis legend Serena Williams mentioned her longtime friends in her opening monologue as she hosted this year’s annual awards ceremony dedicated to sporting achievement.

“It’s nice, actually, I only get to be in a room with real royals very often, and tonight is no exception,” Williams, 42, joked. “Prince Harry and Meghan are here. Let’s give them everything they’ve got.”

“But please, Harry and Meghan, try not to breathe too much tonight. Because it’s my night, and I don’t want to be overshadowed by accusations that you’re consuming too much oxygen, okay?” the professional athlete added as Meghan and Harry laughed from their seats.
