Coronation Street character bloodied and beaten after shock attack

When Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) went to prison earlier this year, the residents of Coronation Street and particularly Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) and her family breathed a sigh of relief.

Mason had made life miserable for Maria’s son Liam (Charlie Wrenshall), brutalizing him to the point that Liam seriously contemplated suicide. With Mason off the streets, it was hoped that Liam would begin to recover from the trauma and move on.

But soon, Maria discovers that Mason is about to be released – and it’s not long before Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows) spots him sleeping outside in the house.

In the next episodes, Stu sees Mason again and is shocked by what he sees. Mason is covered in blood and bruises and has obviously been beaten. What happened to him?

Luca Toolan promised that we would see more of Mason after his return.

“You’re going to see a different side of Mason,” he told us exclusively on the Times Soap Awards red carpet. “You might get to see a bit more of the three-dimensional stuff and understand why he is the way he is.”

He said his first role, while “fun to play,” focused on the “horrible and evil” side of the character. This time around, we’ll see more of Mason’s vulnerability. The character’s backstory will be explored in much more detail.

“We’re going to see family situations, dynamics, jobs, careers, friendships. It’s just about rounding him out as a person,” Luca promised.

Elsewhere, he said he hoped Mason would make the effort to integrate into the street he once terrorized.

“I think he’s just trying to do the right thing, especially after going through a tough time in prison and living a tough life so far. Mason is trying to keep his head above water and do whatever he can to survive, if that means playing the good guy or changing his life, then I hope he does that.”
