Detroit’s MotorCity Casino to Close Poker Room

Detroit’s MotorCity Casino to Close Poker RoomMichigan poker players will soon have no other choice. Detroit’s MotorCity Casino has confirmed that the venue will close its poker room on August 5 at 6 a.m.

The casino did not announce the reason for the closure, but the establishment has ended poker VIP The show will air July 1, according to PlayMichigan.com. MotorCity is owned by Ilitch Holdings, which also owns the Little Caesars pizza franchise, the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers and other Detroit-area companies.

According to Poker Atlas, MotorCity was by far the largest option in town with 37 tables and cash games ranging from $20 to $40.

Detroit-area players will still have two other options in the city. MGM The Grand Casino offers players a 14-table room and the Hollywood Casino in Greektown offers another 10. Players may also want to look across the border to Caesars Windsor Casino in Ontario, which offers 85 tables with real money games and daily tournaments.

Michigan also offers legal online poker through BetMGM, WSOP.com and PokerStars. WSOP PokerStars unveiled a shared liquidity platform between players in Nevada, New Jersey and Michigan in May. PokerStars is launching its shared liquidity platform between players in Michigan and New Jersey in 2023.
