Arunachal Pradesh govt announces recruitment of ex-Agniveers in police, fire departments

The Arunachal Pradesh government will facilitate training of youth from the region to prepare them for recruitment under the Agnipath scheme, while retired Agniveers will be given preference in recruitment for the state police, emergency services and fire brigade, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced. Khandu said this transformative initiative would enable youth from Arunachal Pradesh to serve the country. “The Arunachal Pradesh government will facilitate training of local youth to prepare them for recruitment as Agniveers under the AGNIPATH scheme,” the chief minister said in a message on X.

“Furthermore, retired Agniveers from Arunachal Pradesh will be given preference in recruitment to Arunachal Pradesh Police, AP battalions and Emergency and Fire Services,” he added.

In 2022, the Centre unveiled the ambitious Agnipath programme for recruiting young people aged 17½ to 21 into the Army, Navy and Air Force, largely on a four-year contract basis.

Individuals recruited under this program will be known as Agniveers.

At the end of this four-year term, 25% of the recruits in each group will be offered regular service.

The Union Home Ministry has announced that 10 per cent of vacancies for recruitment in the Central Armed Police Forces or paramilitary forces will be reserved for former Agniveers.

Several state governments have also made similar announcements for recruitment of retired Agniveers in their respective police forces.
