Angry Delta Customers Post Revenge Video on TikTok, Wasting SkyClub Food and Drinks During Delays

Delta Airlines It’s been a rough week since the Crowdstrike/Microsoft incident caused an industry-wide outage, and Delta (unlike every other airline) is still struggling with issues, with passengers caught in the crosshairs.

Angry Delta Customers Post Revenge Video on TikTok, Wasting SkyClub Food and Drinks During Delays

Two passengers have caused some controversy after posting a (satirical?) message online. TikTok video titled “Delta Vengeance: This will make them back down!”showing how they consume and waste a lot of Delta Sky Club resources to punish the airline for their delay.

While most of the video simply shows the two travelers snacking and drinking a ton of food and drink, there are also scenes where a glass of chilled wine is immediately poured into the sink, and one of them runs a shower and pumps shampoo onto the floor.

You can see the video here, uploaded to the guy’s TikTok channel:

I can certainly understand the level of frustration Delta travelers are feeling over this, especially with little to no compensation for this inconvenience, and especially since all other airlines have already recovered from the Crowdstrike incident.

I don’t know exactly how long they were delayed, but the passenger was interviewed by the Daily Mail and recounted how it happened:

Philippe told DailyMail.com he was part of a group of ten people travelling to Quito, Ecuador, for a week of working with children in poor neighbourhoods.

He said: “We already paid for groceries, transportation, accommodation, inflatables for the kids. When our flight was cancelled, all those things were paid for and wasted because we couldn’t fly for several days.”

Users in the comments said Philippi’s video was fitting justice for the airline after last week’s delays, Cancellations and endless queues triggered by Microsoft outage.

One wrote: “I won’t lie, pouring the wine was difficult.”

Another said: “My carry-on would only contain snacks for the entire flight.”

A third added: “As someone who has been completely wronged by Delta, thank you for your service!”

The clip began with the text: “POV (Point of View): Delta is not compensating the thousands of dollars lost because our flights were delayed for days, so we’re going to get it back at SkyClub.”

While the caption read: “This will make them back down.” …

While I appreciate the funny content, I really cringe when food is wasted and other people are made to feel uncomfortable about it. I grew up being told to conserve resources and consider the value of food or I would pay dearly if my parents/grandparents caught me wasting, so I can’t really endorse the action being advocated here, in the same way I hate people who go crazy over buffets but only eat part of it.

I want to give these guys the benefit of the doubt that the majority of the food used to create this video was, in fact, consumed and not thrown away.

The shower scene is another thing that drives me a little crazy. Okay, maybe (I hope) he took a shower after filming, but the idea that they would reserve a shower spot during a time with super long delays and probably a lot of people waiting just to film is just selfish. Not to mention the fact that a staff member then has to clean the shower to get it ready for the next person.

Creating content for Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok has, in many cases, defied common sense and ventured into the absurd. Sure, financially it doesn’t matter to the creator if they waste a massive amount of food, like a mini-pool full of milk, or a huge buffet, as long as their income exceeds their expenses, but it’s simply immoral to do such a thing.

What is Delta’s role in all this?

I think Delta is not entirely innocent in this case. While all Delta fans constantly feel the need to point out how great “their” airline is, the company has had its share of operational issues over the years, which we have often discussed. At the end of the day, Delta is just another North American carrier, so what does “the best,” the best of the worst, really mean?

Six days ago, Delta CEO Ed Bastian issued this half-apology to customers and staff. A few days later, he flew to Paris for the Olympics. This was probably a business trip since Delta is a sponsor, but it doesn’t look good.

Conclusion

Two passengers sparked controversy by creating a TikTok video during a lengthy Delta Air Lines delay, showing them getting revenge on the carrier by wasting food, drinks and shower gel in the SkyClub.

I don’t blame passengers who want to get back at the carrier. But if you decide to do it, do it right and choose a method that actually pays off. Is your luggage delayed, damaged or missing items? Go shopping and file a claim, insisting that it be repaired or replaced. File complaints with the Department of Transportation and other agencies.

Don’t throw (cheap) wine and block showers for other passengers who are waiting hours to use one. It’s mean and doesn’t help anyone.
