Denied entry into Mussoorie, Kanwariyas block Doon road in Uttarakhand

MUSSOORIE:A large group of Kanwariyas Protesters blocked the Mussoorie-Dehradun road on Friday morning after being denied entry into the hill town. Around 50 Kanwariyas staged a sit-in at Kolhukhet, obstructing traffic and demanding access beyond the toll plaza to continue their journey to Uttarkashi. The police arrested them, which led to the roadblock.
For over a decade, the state government has banned Kanwariyas from entering Mussoorie due to previous incidents involving clashes with locals and traders.
Locals and tourists had to wait for the police to lift the blockade. Arvind Chaudhary, chief of Mussoorie security, said: “The group wanted to go to Uttarkashi, but when they were stopped, they blocked traffic for some time. The police then spoke to them and persuaded them to turn back.”
