German cyclist attacked near North Cantt police station in Lahore – Pakistan

A 27-year-old German cyclist was robbed near the North Cantonment police station in Lahore early Saturday.

A First Information Report (FIR), a copy of which is available from Dawn.comwas lodged at the North Cantonment Police Station in his complaint under Section 382 (robbery after preparation to cause death, hurt or restraint to commit robbery) of the Pakistan Penal Code

Florian Berg, 27, was attacked at 1:30 a.m. by two men who ambushed his tent on a patch of grass near the street.

According to the FIR, the suspects searched his bag after he told them he had no cash. Berg said he tried to escape but the suspects caught up with him and robbed him of his belongings, including a camera, AirPods, a phone, a power bank and Rs 5,000.

Berg said he was also physically assaulted by the two men.

A police statement said that Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Faisal Kamran took notice of the theft and constituted special teams to investigate the case and arrest the suspects.

He added that police were also monitoring security cameras in the city to identify the thieves and the tourist was given medical help at Punjab Rangers University Hospital.

The DIG said the suspects would be arrested soon and all the tourist’s valuables would be recovered.
