Governor, Chief Minister condole death of legendary dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy

Vijayawada: Governor S. Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu led the chorus of condolences on Saturday following the demise of renowned classical dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy in Delhi.

Krishnamurthy, a Padma Vibhushan awardee, was a doyenne of Bharatanatyam. Governor Nazeer expressed deep sorrow over her demise and offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Chief Minister Naidu described Krishnamurthy as a stalwart of Indian classical dance. Born in Madanapalle in 1940, she distinguished herself as ‘Asthana Nartaki’ (resident dancer) at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

A versatile artist, she excelled in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Odissi, earning worldwide fame for her performances in Kuchipudi.
