At A&W, one person will have to earn their float, the company said in an Aug. 1 statement.

But that won’t be the case. Also hard.

“On National Root Beer Float Day, August 6, simply show off your ‘Float Flex’ — that is, flaunt your new physique with your best muscle-flexing pose — at any participating A&W restaurant in the U.S. between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time,” the company said in the release.

A&W has branches in 36 states.

Customers who choose to participate in a “Float Flex” will receive a free small root beer float, A&W said.

No purchase is necessary for the free drink, they said, but suggested customers donate to the nonprofit Disabled American Veterans, which A&W partnered with during National Root Beer Float Day.

The “Float Flex” promotion was inspired by the weight of the root beer soda served at A&W, the company said.

“The iconic A&W Root Beer Float is, without a doubt, one of the heaviest beverages in the quick-service restaurant industry,” Liz Bazner, A&W’s vice president of marketing and innovation, said in the Aug. 1 release.

Bazner continued, “It’s so heavy that we were worried we were missing out on an entire untapped market of people who just can’t handle its sheer size. This National Root Beer Float Day, we wanted to get everyone pumped and ready to enjoy their free float.”
