Drunk driver kills 7-year-old in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A drunken man rammed his speeding car into a motorcycle at Ibrahimbagh under Golconda police limits here on Saturday, killing a seven-year-old boy on the spot and injuring his father.

The victim has been identified as Sourya, a resident of YSR Colony. His father Ramesh was injured but is out of danger.

“In the accident, Sourya sustained head injuries and was unconscious while his father Ramesh sustained minor injuries. The driver of the car tried to escape. However, locals chased the car and arrested the driver. One Srinivas was driving the vehicle and he was in an inebriated state,” Golconda Sub-Inspector S. Venkateswar said.

The locals informed the police, who reached the spot and shifted the boy to hospital, but doctors declared Sourya dead.

“We have registered cases of negligence in driving leading to death and drunken driving against Srinivas. We also found liquor bottles in the car and seized them,” police said.

Sourya’s body has been sent for an autopsy, based on which action will be taken against the driver.

In a similar case, an alleged drunk driver knocked down a homeless man near Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad. The accused managed to flee the scene.
According to police, the victim was crossing the road when the car hit him. According to CCTV footage, police took action.

Continued crackdown on drunk driving results in over 300 arrests in Cyberabad

Raidurgam police have arrested software engineer Kranthi Kumar for causing the death of a person while driving drunk.

January 6, 2023: Banjara Hills police arrested two persons, Sai Vardhan and Pranav, for causing the death of two persons in another drunken driving incident.

A massive crackdown on drunken driving launched on August 2 has led to the arrest of 309 offenders in Cyberabad limits.

In total, 261 two-wheeler drivers, 11 three-wheeler drivers, 36 four-wheeler drivers and 1 heavy vehicle driver were arrested.

* Thirty-three offenders were arrested with blood alcohol levels (BAC) between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
