iPhone Goes Straight to Voicemail Without Ringing? Here’s What to Do

If you find that your iPhone is constantly sending your phone calls straight to voicemail without giving them a chance to ring, there may be a fairly simple fix for this problem. Most of the time, this happens because of certain settings that are enabled. Don’t worry, because this has happened to me more than once, and it’s probably happened to anyone who owns an iPhone. Keep reading to fix this problem.

Why does my iPhone go straight to voicemail without ringing?

Apple has packed the iPhone with a ton of features, many of which offer options to mute phone calls. I’ll be looking at several of these features, but the problem could also be your carrier. While carrier issues are one of the last things you should consider, you might want to keep the idea on the table.

iPhone Goes Straight to Voicemail – Fixes

1. Contact your network provider

According to a post on the Apple forums, the best solution to fix the problem is to contact your carrier. This means that the problem may not even be with you, especially if you don’t remember changing your voicemail settings.

Once you’ve contacted your carrier, they should be able to fix the issue internally and your iPhone should stop accessing voicemail on its own. However, if your carrier’s customer service isn’t able to help, you can try to fix the issue yourself by following the instructions below.

2. Check for a software update

One of the first things you should do if your phone calls are going straight to voicemail is to check if your iPhone needs a software update. Not only is updating a good idea to potentially fix minor software bugs, but it also ensures that you’re getting the best possible security from Apple’s side.

To check for an update, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update and search Download now Or Install nowIf one is available, go ahead and install it.

3. Check if airplane mode is turned on

Another simple fix is to check if Airplane Mode is turned on. Honestly, it’s very easy to forget that this setting is on, especially if you travel a lot. Airplane Mode turns off your cell service, which means all your calls will go straight to voicemail.

Airplane mode may prevent users from receiving calls.

If you want to turn off airplane mode, you can do so from the Control center. Simply swipe down from the top right corner of your device and click the button Plane icon. Wait a few seconds before turning it back on. Note that older devices, IE, those without Face ID, display the Control Center by swiping up from the bottom.

You can also find the switch for Airplane mode at the top of your Settings app.

4. Make sure the ringer volume is correct

You can increase the volume of your ringtone using the physical button Volume buttons on the side of your device, or you can navigate to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and adjust the slider under Alarm And AlertsMake sure to check if the physical switch on the side of your device is not set to silent.

5. Focus Mode can forward iPhone calls directly to voicemail

Another thing you might want to check out is Focus Mode. Also available in the Control centerIt’s a great way to achieve peace and quiet, but it might be too quiet if you forget to turn it off. Don’t worry, because it’s also something that’s pretty easy to forget you turned on in the first place.

If your iPhone calls are going straight to voicemail, check if Focus Mode is enabled.

Just bring your Control center and look for the Moon icon. Focus Mode and/or Do Not Disturb will tell you if it is enabled. However, toggling it on and off may be a good idea if you are still having trouble receiving calls.

Users can also access Settings > Focus to see if they have any profiles set up, for example when they’re trying to sleep. This can prevent you from receiving incoming calls. You may only have this option depending on the version of iOS you’re using.

6. Call Announcement Function

Users can also try checking the Announce Calls feature. Although this setting is usually disabled, enabling it can help a user fix the issue of calls always going to voicemail.

Just go to Settings > Phone > Announce calls and select Always in the menu. See if this helps solve your problem.

7. Update Operator Settings

Another issue a user may encounter is that they may need to update their carrier settings. If your carrier settings are not up to date, phone calls may go straight to voicemail. You may also experience other minor issues if you have not updated your carrier settings.

To check this, simply go to Settings > General > AboutIf you need a settings update from your carrier, your iPhone will notify you with a banner right at the top.

8. Disable the Silence Unknown Callers feature

When Silence Unknown Callers is enabled, any call from an unknown number will go straight to your voicemail and you’ll see a notification in the Recents tab of the Phone app. Don’t see the Decline button? Here’s how.

If you wish to disable this feature, go to Settings > Phone > Turn off unknown calls and make sure it is turned off.

While it’s a great feature, the Silence Unknown Callers feature can prevent you from receiving the phone calls you want.

9. Disable or remove your anti-spam applications

If you use a spam blocking app, this can also be a problem. While these apps are usually very useful for blocking spam, sometimes they can be a little too useful. You can either go into your spam blocker’s settings and look for your options, or you can uninstall the app completely.

Necessary time : 1 minute

To delete an app from your iPhone, follow these steps:

  1. Find the app on your home screen.
  2. Press and hold the app icon directly. You will then see a quick action menu.
  3. Select Withdraw Applicationthen press Delete the application and press DELETE one more time.

10. Reset network settings

If none of the solutions listed above helped, try the nuclear option and reset network settings. Keep in mind that this will reset all your network settings, which includes deleting saved Wi-Fi passwords and roaming settings. So proceed with caution.

Here’s how to reset network settings on your iPhone:

  • Open Settings.
  • Faucet General.
  • Select Transfer or reset iPhone.
  • Go to Reset > Reset network settings.
  • Enter your password or PIN, then confirm the selection.
