Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley was filmed grabbing a journalist’s microphone and throwing it to the ground as he left a Cobra meeting this morning.

The Met commissioner attended the meeting in Westminster on Monday in response to the wave of violent riots taking place across Britain.

He was asked about two-tier policing as he left the Cabinet Office, before grabbing the reporter’s microphone and dropping it.

As the Met commissioner left the meeting he was asked a question about two-tier policing, but Sir Mark grabbed a Sky reporter’s microphone and dropped it on the floor before walking away as other members of the press followed him.

Downing Street today (5 August) called an emergency Cobra response meeting, attended by relevant ministers and police representatives, who discussed the response in the coming days to ensure there is no repeat of the violence.

The move comes after Humza Yousaf called for the army to be deployed to try to stop thugs from unleashing chaos across the UK as riots continue across the country.

The former First Minister of Scotland believes that “the army can help take control where the police cannot”.

In Rotherham on Sunday 4 August, anti-immigration rioters smashed windows at the Holiday Inn Express before setting fires.

Masked men threw pieces of wood, chairs and bottles, some spraying police with fire extinguishers, amid a crowd of 700 people.

Rioting also took place in Middlesbrough. Hundreds of far-right protesters clashed with police shields at the Cenotaph in Middlesbrough, throwing bricks, cans and pots at officers. One shouted: “This is our shitty country.”

As horrific footage shows thugs posing in front of a burning car in Sunderland with one man standing on the bonnet while the other two men clasp their arms in the air, after far-right rioters allegedly set the car alight, threw a firebomb at a police station and also torched a police car.
