PETALING JAYA: Sabah Umno stalwart Salleh Said Keruak has praised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to prevent racial and religious issues from being manipulated for political gain.

Salleh, a former chief minister and federal minister, said he believed Anwar’s political philosophy was different from that of previous prime ministers.

“He is able to accurately identify the main problems facing our country today: corruption, racial politics and religious manipulation. Such narrow political manipulations and tactics are extremely harmful to the people and the nation,” Salleh said in a social media post.

He said that in addition to Anwar’s high-profile fight against corruption, the prime minister had also taken the right political approach by insisting that race and religion should not be politicised.

Anwar sent a very clear message in his speech in Kota Kinabalu yesterday: he will not compromise in the fight against corruption and abuse of power.

Speaking at the Sabah PKR convention in Kota Kinabalu yesterday, Anwar urged Sabahans not to be deceived by those who exploit the “Sabah for Sabahans” sentiment solely for personal gain.

Anwar also called on all parties to address long-standing problems in Sabah, such as extreme poverty, lack of water and electricity supply, floods and damaged roads.

“He (Anwar) firmly believes that the wealth of the nation belongs to the people,” Salleh said. “This is good news not only for the people of Sabah, but for all Malaysians.”
