Death toll from flash floods rises to 7 in Saudi Arabia’s Jazan as heavy rains wreak havoc in Mecca

The death toll from flash floods caused by torrential rains that hit the Jazan region in southwestern Saudi Arabia has risen to seven, according to Saudi media. The dead include a couple who were swept away in their car by floodwaters while traveling on a road connecting Al Aridhah and Ahad Al Msarihah governorates in southeastern Jazan province. Another man and his wife died after a bridge connecting Sabya and Abu Arish governorates partially collapsed, Sabq news portal reported. Other family members were injured in the incident. Later, civil defense teams recovered the bodies of three people, including two teenagers and a 35-year-old man, who died in a flooded wadi (valley) in Jazan. Heavy rains continued to hit different parts of Jazan until Wednesday morning. Rainy weather is expected to continue in the region.
