One man killed, four injured in blast in Dera Ismail Khan: rescue official – Pakistan

A man died while three children and a woman were injured in a blast in Gilani town of Dera Ismail Khan division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, rescue officials said.

Aizaz Mahmood, spokesperson for DI Khan’s Rescue 1122 service, confirmed the victims of the same family in a statement to Dawn.com.

“One man died and four people, including three children and a woman, were injured in the explosion,” the statement said. “The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined,” it added.

Mahmood said that the medical and disaster relief vehicles of Rescue 1122 responded immediately under the supervision of Emergency Officer Nomanullah and the directives of District Emergency Engineer Faseehullah.

All the injured and the bodies of the deceased have been shifted to a hospital, Mahmood said, adding that rescue teams were present at the incident site to clear the debris.

Last month, seven people were injured in an explosion caused by a gas leak at the Islamia University in Bahawalpur. The blast damaged the building, causing nearly half of it to collapse.

In the last few months, Sindh has also witnessed an alarming increase in explosions caused by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.

Although gas cylinders and leaks are a common cause of explosions in residential buildings, such incidents in KP are also caused by landmines.

In April and May, at least one landmine explosion incident occurred in DI Khan Division, resulting in casualties.
