START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS • Guidelines must be followed In all schools • For all teaching and non-teaching staff • All students in public schools • Private schools and community learning centers, as well as local state universities and colleges have the option to comply

15. DEPED READY KA! START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPARATION EARTHQUAKES Local governments must decide whether to cancel classes in cases where PEIS is IV and below GUIDELINES FOR CANCELLATION OR SUSPENSION OF CLASSES AND WORK IN SCHOOLS

START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS EARTHQUAKES School principals may cancel classes at any intensity scale based on the assessment of school buildings or other structures deemed to be at risk or severely damaged. 19. DEPED READY KA! START THE SCHOOL YEAR BY PREPARING FOR DISASTERS POWER OUTAGES/INTERRUPTIONS/BLACKOUTS If power outages/interruptions/blackouts in schools result in a poor learning environment, the school principal may suspend classes at their discretion. REBOOT THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS ADJUSTING LEARNING DELIVERY DUE TO COURSE SUSPENSION/CANCELLATION In the event of course cancellation, modular distance learning, performance tasks, projects, or make-up classes will be implemented. 21. DEPED READY KA! START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS ADJUSTING LEARNING DELIVERY DUE TO COURSE SUSPENSION/CANCELLATION In accordance with DO 4, s. 2021, learners who miss learning activities due to course suspensions caused by various disruptions shall be given special consideration in their attendance and completion of their learning tasks. RE-START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MAINTAINING WORKFORCE AND ACTIVATING DRRM TEAMS School teaching staff, including ALS teachers, and non-teaching staff will not be required to work, except for those mandated to perform security, safety, finance, engineering, sanitation, health, and disaster response duties. STARTING THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS STAFFING MAINTENANCE AND DRRM TEAM ACTIVATION • Central, regional and school division offices and schools are to activate their DRRM teams • Private school officials may exercise discretion regarding the work arrangements of their DRRM staff GUIDELINES FOR CANCELLATION OR SUSPENSION OF CLASSES AND WORK IN SCHOOLS

24. DEPED READY KA! STARTING THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS USE OF SCHOOLS AS EVACUATION CENTERS In the event that the evacuation center identified in the local communities is unavailable, schools may be used as evacuation centers but should not remain in place for more than fifteen (15) days. START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS CONDUCTING PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID All school division offices, with support from regional offices, are responsible for assessing mental health and psychosocial support needs and services, and leading the conduct of psychological first aid. 26. DEPED READY KA! START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPARATION PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITY Parents or guardians have the ultimate responsibility to determine whether their children should attend school, taking into account their physical and mental health in the event of a disaster. 27. DEPED READY KA! START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS), in coordination with concerned DepEd central offices and affected regions and divisions, will continue to lead the implementation of existing mechanisms for monitoring, reporting, and responding to the impacts of disasters on DepEd schools. 28. DEPED READY KA! START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS • DRRMS also monitors the suspension and resumption of classes reported by the affected division offices. • The Bureau of Learning Delivery (BLD), under the Curriculum and Teaching (CT) component, will continue to lead the monitoring, reporting, and response to necessary adjustments to learning delivery strategies due to suspensions.
