After doctor’s rape, murder, CBI probes Kolkata for ‘financial irregularities’ at RG Kar Hospital – India News

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday conducted searches at several locations in Kolkata, including the homes and offices of former officials of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as part of its probe into alleged financial irregularities.

The raids targeted Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Sanjay Vashisth, former medical superintendent and deputy superintendent, along with 13 others. The CBI sleuths also visited the residences of vendors involved in patient care management.

At least seven CBI officers questioned Ghosh at his Beliaghata residence from 8 am. The team reached his house around 6 am but waited for an hour and a half for him to open the door. Vashisth was questioned about his knowledge of the financial discrepancies during his tenure.

The CBI also searched the hospital’s offices and canteen. It asked the current director, Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay, to be present during the searches.

The CBI investigation follows the rape and murder of a postgraduate medical intern at the hospital on August 9, which sparked nationwide protests and prompted the Calcutta High Court to order the agency to probe both the crime and financial irregularities.
