Mr Kohli died in hospital after the attack, which happened near the Bramble Way entrance to the park at around 6.30pm BST on Sunday.

An autopsy revealed he died from a neck injury.

His family described him as “a loving husband, father and grandfather” in a statement.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with Mr Kohli’s murder on Wednesday.

Andrew Baxter, Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has reviewed a file of evidence from Leicestershire Police and has authorised a charge of murder against a 14-year-old boy in relation to the death of Bhim Sen Kohli.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are now active and that the young person is entitled to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online is made that could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
