13-year-old arrested in southeast Houston, caught on camera punching man over cigarette

HOUSTON – Police have a 13-year-old boy in custody and need your help finding three other young men who are on the run after they were caught on camera beating and robbing a man in southeast Houston over a cigarette.

It all happened around 5 p.m. on June 12, according to the Houston Police Department’s Robbery Division. Surveillance video shows an unidentified man buying something at a convenience store on Cullen Boulevard near 610 S Loop when several young men approached him.

According to police, the young men asked the customer for “a cigarette.” He refused to give them one, so they went to the parking lot and waited for him to leave the store.

As the man walked away, investigators said in a news release, the young men rushed at him and attacked him, punching him in the face several times before taking his wallet and fleeing.

While a complaint was filed with the police, one of the attackers, identified as a 13-year-old boy, returned to the scene and was arrested. The other three attackers are still at large and their ages have not been disclosed, at the time of writing.
