Sadness over cancellation of Cotgrave memorial parade

Sadness over cancellation of Cotgrave memorial parade

Helen Joyce, 45, who has lived in Cotgrave for 13 years, started the petition and said she was “disheartened and disappointed by the decision”.

She admitted that the number of people attending the parade has declined in recent years.

But she added: “No matter how many people come, there should be a visual act of commemoration in the street.”

“It’s like the beginning of Cotgrave being forgotten, and it’s very, very sad.”

Some residents expressed regret at the cancellation of the event.

Helena Coupland, 36, from Cotgrave, said: “I think it’s a shame because they do such a great job every year.”

Cotgrave Town Council said the Remembrance Parade on the route had “been experiencing difficulties for a number of years”.

The authority said it had “struggled to safely stage the event” and there was a shortage of marshals in 2023, forcing it to pay a private security company.
