Dave Navarro Says Jane’s Addiction Has Split

Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has admitted that the band is unlikely to perform their new single, “True Love,” live, suggesting they have split.

His latest comments come amid widespread speculation about the band’s future. On September 13, their Boston show ended prematurely after 11 songs when frontman Perry Farrell attacked Navarro onstage while he was performing the song “Ocean’s Size.”

Jane’s Addiction initially canceled a show at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheatre in Bridgeport, Connecticut, before the entire tour was canceled.

In total, 14 dates have been cancelled by Jane’s Addiction. The band was scheduled to resume their North American tour in Toronto on September 18, and conclude at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on October 16.

Navarro has since shared a statement, co-signed by the rest of the band, explaining the cancellation which reads: “Due to the ongoing behavior and mental health struggles of our lead singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current U.S. tour.”

Navarro also said that “our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us with no alternative.” He also said on behalf of the group: “We hope he finds the help he needs.”

Farrell responded by accepting responsibility for his actions, admitting: “This weekend has been incredibly difficult, and having had the time and space to reflect, it is only fitting that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, my fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full responsibility for how I chose to handle the situation.”

Is Jane’s Addiction still around?

Jane’s Addiction have no future shows planned, and it’s unclear whether they will return to the stage once Farrell has had time to reflect on his actions.

On September 18, they released their new single, “True Love,” which follows “Imminent Redemption” released in July. While Jane’s Addiction has not promoted the track on social media, Navarro commented on the new song, but admitted that the band may never get the chance to perform it live.

Sharing a snippet of the track on Instagram, Navarro wrote: “I’m proud of the work we did on this song, but I’m also saddened by the fact that you’ll probably never hear it live.”

In the same message, Navarro again apologized to the bands Love and Rockets and Crawlers who supported the band. He said he was sorry “that things ended this way and that so many jobs were lost because of it.” Navarro concluded by writing, “May our hearts all be reconciled together.”

This latest Instagram post marks the second time this week that Navarro has taken to social media to hint that his time with Jane’s Addiction is coming to an end. Before the tour was officially canceled, he shared a photo of himself in concert holding an acoustic guitar emblazoned with the Jane’s Addiction logo, along with the caption, “Goodnight.”

While there is no confirmation yet that Jane’s Addiction has split, Navarro’s Instagram posts make their future seem worrisome.
