Tyreek Hill: You’re doing great

The status of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa continues to be a concern for the Dolphins. That means many players and coaches will be asked about Tua, especially those who work closest with him.

Receiver Tyreek Hill was asked about Tua’s health on Thursday.

“Tua’s doing great,” Hill told reporters. “I’m sure you asked everybody in the locker room, but he’s doing great. How’s the locker room going — the biggest thing we want to do is make sure Tua’s doing great. Once I called him the next day or whatever, I heard his voice, I heard he was in a good mood, I was cool, man. Because to me, this shit is bigger than football. Our lives are bigger than football. We’re individuals too with families, we got stuff to do. Once I heard that, it was cool.”

Hill was reminded that all players need to do their 1/11. Without Tua, does anyone need to do more than that?

“Stay the same,” Hill said. “Ultimately, you don’t want to do anything outside of your job because at the end of the day, you’re going to be held accountable for it and you’re going to be held responsible for it. That’s what we train for. Do what you’re taught, trust your fundamentals and your techniques and you’ll be fine. When it’s time to make a move, it’s going to happen.”

For now, Skylar Thompson will occupy the quarterback position.

“He’s a little bit faster than Tua, so I’m kind of excited about that,” Hill said with a laugh. “Skylar, he does a great job of extending plays. As you saw, when he came in (two years ago) when we played Buffalo, he did a great job of stretching the ball down the field and giving them a different look. He’s got great skills. He’s fearless, he’s fearless and he’s a real competitor. I love that.”

The Dolphins will play their first game of the 2024 season without Tua in Seattle. He will miss at least four games as he recovers from at least his fourth concussion.
