Packers vs. Titans final injury report: Jordan Love doubtful

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, coach Matt LaFleur said after Friday’s practice.

Yes, Love had limited participation in Friday’s practiceAsked after practice if Love had been given the medical green light, LaFleur said, “We’re working on it.”

Love will stand until the inactives are announced at 10:30 to prepare to play.

“I think he’s got a lot of work to do,” LaFleur said. “You don’t want to put anybody in that position, but he’s certainly doing everything he can. He wants to be on the field more than anybody. But we’re going to get there. We’re going to let him play until the game starts and see where we’re at.”

Cornerback Carrington Valentine (ankle) and offensive lineman Jordan Morgan (shoulder) did not practice this week. Morgan is out and Valentine is doubtful.

Love did not practice last week and was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report. However, he was downgraded to questionable on Saturday and was inactive for the win over the Indianapolis Colts. This week, his participation was limited to the three practices.

“He’s got to feel good physically to be able to play,” quarterbacks coach Tom Clements said Thursday. “In the NFL, usually after the first or second game, from that point on, a lot of guys have things to work through to get ready to play at a high level that week. It’s a physical game, everybody has to do what they feel they need to do to get ready to perform. It’s a week-to-week situation for everybody.”

Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said Love would let the team know if he was able to play. Love, for his part, said the coaches “would be the ones to give me the green light.”

All week, the coaches stuck to the company’s policy of “limited” on almost every question asked about love.

There was a ripple effect.

“He looks good,” running back Josh Jacobs said Friday. “He’s been limited, but he looks good.”

Love practiced Wednesday and Thursday with a brace on his left knee, which he injured exactly two weeks ago in Brazil in the final seconds of a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

On Friday, Love warmed up as far away from reporters as possible; presumably, his corset was back in place.

“There’s definitely a lot of things that are mental and just making sure your mind is in the right place when you come back and get back on the field, just making sure there’s no, I would say, fear of getting hurt again or anything like that,” Love said Wednesday.

“But I’m doing a good job of trying to make sure I’m confident in myself, confident in the rehab and everything I’m doing out there, listening to the coaches and taking it day by day. But there’s definitely a mental component to it, just making sure your mind is ready to come back. At the same time, it’s tough not to get reps in practice. It takes you out of the rhythm that you’re in, so all those things are important, but the mental aspect is huge.”

If Love isn’t quite ready to go, the Packers will turn to Malik Willis for a second straight week.

“He’s been in treatment around the clock, taking care of his body,” Willis said after Wednesday’s practice. “You can tell he’s more comfortable moving around the building, like he did today. I wouldn’t be surprised. I just have to stay ready and focus on what I can control and leave it up to him and Coach LaFleur.”

The uncertainty has led to a bit of a strange week. Last week, there was really no doubt that Willis would start and Love would be inactive. This week, there is genuine intrigue and — though no one on the team has said it — division in practice reps.

Willis, however, said this week had been business as usual.

“If Jordan starts, you don’t know when you’re going to come in, and when you have to go, you just have to prepare as a starter no matter what, and I think that’s the mindset you have whether you’re a starter or not,” he said.

“You’ve got to be prepared to go out there and make every play that could be called, that would be called and that could be called. I think that’s more of a mentality than what I had going into the week. I’m not going to prepare any differently, that’s what I’m saying.”

Bookmakers don’t think Love will playThe Titans were 2.5-point favorites all week; by noon Friday, the line had moved to the Titans by 3 points.
