Morgantown City Manager Kim Haws Announces Retirement

Sept. 20—MORGANTOWN — Morgantown City Manager Kim Haws has announced his intention to retire in the near future, marking the end of a distinguished career as a civic leader that spanned decades.

“Throughout his career, Haws has been instrumental in improving West Virginia communities, and his impact on Morgantown will continue to resonate long after he is gone,” Mayor Joe Abu-Ghannam said in a statement. “Simply put, he will be missed.”

Under his leadership and care, Morgantown has seen significant advancements that have positively impacted residents and businesses, ultimately strengthening the community as a whole.

As Haws prepares for retirement, he is committed to ensuring a smooth transition. He is actively working with city administration, councilors and officials to implement a transition plan that will allow Morgantown to continue to thrive.

While the Morgantown City Council appreciates Haws’ leadership and wants to retain him as city manager, it understands and respects his decision.

“I think we all understand the importance of the choice that was made,” said Deputy Mayor Jenny Selin. “We are deeply grateful to Kim and cannot thank him enough for his thoughtful leadership over the years.”

Haws will continue to serve as city manager until his retirement date, which is yet to be determined. He will also continue to focus on key projects that require his guidance and oversight.

“As I retire, I will never forget the valuable lessons learned and memories created alongside our remarkable staff and community leaders,” Haws said. “It has been a profound honor to serve Morgantown, and I am deeply grateful for the support, collaboration and friendships that have blessed my journey. Together, we have built not only a city, but a legacy of hope and progress.”
