Mark Robinson Sees North Carolina Campaign Staff Resigning En masse After Damning CNN Report

North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson reportedly has only single-digit numbers of paid staff left after most of his team dropped out of his gubernatorial bid following a damaging CNN investigation.

Robinson was investigated Thursday by the network’s KFile unit. A report by CNN revealed an extensive history of comments made on a porn site called “Nude Africa” under an email address and username both known to be linked to him.

The comments, which touched on a wide range of topics, were outrageous and shocking – in one he apparently called himself a “black Nazi”.

Although Robinson released a video message Thursday denying making the comments, he has faced calls from fellow Republicans demanding he prove CNN defamed him with false information or drop out of the race.

And over the weekend, his problems multiplied. A Robinson campaign statement released Sunday afternoon said all of his staff had resigned.

WUNC also reported that the resignations were much larger than the statement admitted. According to the outlet, only three paid staffers were still employed by Robinson’s campaign as of Sunday night.

Robinson denied he would drop out of the race and accused Democrats of fabricating the allegations.

But conservatives following the race reacted to the news last week not with surprise but with resignation, as many seemed to indicate that the lion’s share of the accusations had been circulating privately for months.

“It’s been cooked for a long time,” said Doug Heye, a longtime Republican activist from North Carolina. The Independent In a text message Thursday, he stressed that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign was “very concerned about the impact this story would have on him.”

The magnitude of Robinson’s reported comments is shocking in itself. In addition to his comments about racial demographics, which would be plenty in themselves, the North Carolina Republican has expressed his views on liking pornography involving transgender Americans, despite publicly opposing transgender rights and same-sex marriage.

The account linked to Robinson also featured comments describing the author’s sexual proclivities and even claiming to have had sex with his wife’s sister. Additionally, the author allegedly claimed to have spied on women and girls changing in a locker room without their knowledge or consent.

The release of CNN’s survey was a nightmare scenario for Robinson, who was already trailing his opponent Josh Stein in the North Carolina gubernatorial race by a single-digit margin, according to most polls.

Now, the Trump campaign (which had endorsed him) is publicly backing him at the worst possible time; Trump himself did not invite Robinson to a rally in the state on Saturday, with reports indicating his campaign knew the story was coming.

North Carolina is also a key state in the presidential race, which Trump won by less than two percentage points in 2020. Kamala Harris, who took over the Democratic ticket in July, has narrowed her opponent’s lead to a similar margin in available polls since entering the race.
