Reese Witherspoon Announces Elle Woods Casting Call for Legally Blonde Prequel

The search for the next Elle Woods has officially begun for the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series.

Reese Witherspoon, who played the character, announced the open casting call in an Instagram video on Wednesday.

The Oscar winner shared, “Our search for the high school version of Elle Woods is officially on!”

“Along with our friends @primevideo, we’re making the casting process completely OPEN, so you can submit your auditions via the link in my bio… I’m SO excited to see all of your fabulous versions of everyone’s favorite Gemini vegetarian!”

Encouraging budding actors, she added, “I can’t wait to tell you that we are starting the casting process and making it open! Yes, that’s right. This is an open casting call for the young Elle Woods when she was in high school.

“So send your submissions to the link in my bio. I can’t wait to see all the Elle Woods out there. This is going to be really fun!

The Legally Blonde prequel, currently titled Elle, was first revealed by Reese Witherspoon in May during an Amazon advertiser presentation.

The series, produced in partnership with her media company Hello Sunshine, will explore Elle Woods’ adolescence, highlighting the experiences that shaped her to become the determined female audience first encountered in the original film.

Released in 2001, Legally Blonde grossed $141 million at the worldwide box office and received two Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) for Witherspoon .

The film’s success led to the 2003 sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde and a 2007 Broadway musical adaptation.

The announcement of the prequel series comes as fans eagerly await updates on the upcoming Legally Blonde 3, which was originally scheduled for release in 2020.

Laura Kittrell will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the Legally Blonde prequel series. Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt will also executive produce alongside Witherspoon and Kittrell.
