Yankees star sends clear message about playoff chances

New York Yankees fans can rest easy this weekend, as the Yankees’ dominant 10-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday means they have clinched not only the AL East, but also the No. 1 seed. #1 in the AL throughout the MLB playoffs.

Thursday’s victory was an offensive explosion from New York. Superstar slugger and AL MVP favorite Aaron Judge hit his 58th home run of the season (meaning he’s hit five straight games), struggling left fielder Alex Verdugo added a solo homer and Giancarlo Stanton went 2-4 with 4 RBIs, including a double to clear the bases and the 27th home run of his 2024 campaign.

Not to mention, Yankees ace Gerrit Cole pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up just 2 hits while adding 5 strikeouts to his 2024 total.

Seeing the Yankees celebrate their big win in style after the game had to be a highlight not only for the team but for the fans. Given the massive expectations the Yankees generate each season, celebrating accomplishments like winning the AL East sometimes seems unworthy of this historic franchise. But New York has had a fantastic season and deserves to celebrate that accomplishment – at least for tonight.

But the work is not yet finished. Even though the team knows this, they are also confident about their playoff chances.

When Giancarlo Stanton was asked if he thought the Yankees were “the team to beat” in the postseason, during postgame festivities, he responded: “We better be. C ‘is the point,” according to SNY.

Stanton’s response is more than fair, considering that’s what it means to be the No. 1 seed.

Now Yankees fans can spend this weekend’s upcoming series against the Pittsburgh Pirates worrying more about Judge reaching 60 homers and him and Soto hitting a historic home run milestone than the final score of the match.

Then again, not caring about wins and losses goes against the nature of New York.
