An Air India passenger complained on social media that she found a cockroach in the in-flight meal served to her while she was flying from Delhi to New York. The woman also shared a video clip and photos of the cockroach stuck in the omelette she ordered for her daughter and herself. She claimed to have suffered food poisoning after consuming contaminated food.

The airline responded to the passenger’s complaint saying it was aware of the matter and had contacted the catering service provider for further investigation.

Expressing concern over the incident, an Air India spokesperson said in a statement: “We are aware of a social media post from a passenger regarding a foreign object in the on-board meal which was offered to him on AI 101 operating from DEL to JFK on September 17, 2024. “.

“We will take necessary measures to prevent such cases from recurring in the future,” the spokesperson said.

In a post on X, the Air India passenger said she found a cockroach in the omelette served on the flight en route to New York. She wrote: “My 2 year old son was more than half done with me when we discovered this. He suffered food poisoning as a result.”

The passenger, Suyesha Rawat, also tagged Air India, aviation regulator DGCA and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu in the X post.

In the statement, the Air India spokesperson said the airline was concerned about the incident the customer had to endure and assured that the matter was being investigated, reported the news agency PTI.

Furthermore, the spokesperson also said that Air India works with reputed caterers who provide meals to various major airlines of the world. The airline emphasized that these caterers follow strict SOPs and meals undergo multiple checks to ensure their quality before being served to guests.
