Schools close early and events are canceled due to high winds from Hurricane Helene.

As the remnants of Hurricane Helene move toward Ohio, a high wind warning is in effect for the Cincinnati area, leading to cancellations and adjustments for outdoor events. Some schools are also releasing students early and canceling activities.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington issued a warning Friday morning for most southwest Ohio counties, from Cincinnati to Dayton. In the Cincinnati area, the warning was issued for Hamilton, Butler, Clermont and Warren counties in Ohio, as well as Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties in northern Kentucky. The warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Strong winds are accompanied by heavy rain.

Cancellations

  • The Kroger Wellness Festival has canceled all events scheduled for Friday, the supermarket company announced in a statement. The cancellation is due to the forecast of “strong winds,” the statement said. Kroger added that the festival was in contact with city officials and meteorologists in the days leading up to the event.

  • Kings Island is closed Friday evening as the remnants of Hurricane Helene move toward the Greater Cincinnati area. Mason Amusement Park said its decision to close was “out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our guests and associates,” citing the National Weather Service’s hazardous weather forecast of high winds and rain Friday evening. Anyone with an admission ticket for Friday can use it any other day the park is open through Nov. 3, Kings Island said.

  • Art After Dark: The Remix at Cincinnati Art Museum is making adjustments for the Friday, September 27 event amid devastating winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Helene. The museum announced Friday morning on Facebook that all Art After Dark performances, including a free concert by renowned hip-hop artist and DJ Talib Kweli, would take place inside the museum. The venue said the change means a capacity limit will be enforced indoors, so visitors are recommended to arrive early. The Cincinnati Art Museum previously announced that the concert would take place in the venue’s front parking lot, rain or shine. The car park will now be open to visitors. Overflow parking is available at 640 Eden Park Drive, with free Cincinnati Metro shuttles to the museum.
