Which Saints players you should consider for the week

Which Saints players you should consider for the week

Last week was a rough outing for the Saints, and Fantasy owners felt it from several players as well. Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave had their best days against the Eagles, but this week is a completely different story. New Orleans is currently dealing with a lot of injuries, making some games risky this week. Here are my tips for approaching Week 4 fantasy football.

Be sure to check Sports Illustrated Fantasy Cover with Michael Fabiano for all your needs this football season.

Alvin Kamara is banged up, but should still get good production against the Falcons

Alvin Kamara (14.24 projected points)

Even with the difficulty running the ball last week, Kamara ended up scoring double-digit points for Fantasy owners with his extended touches. I don’t see 29 touches for him this week due to a hip and rib injury, but he’ll play and hold up. He’s a must-play every week until you see him out of the lineup.

Rashid Shaheed (11.71 projected points)

Shaheed was cleared last week and Fantasy owners weren’t expecting it. He’s probably the safest receiver this week (see Olave’s tips shortly) and has a chance to bounce back in a big way. How New Orleans approaches this game on offense will be fascinating, and Shaheed could see increasing targets as one of Carr’s main targets.

I wouldn’t start a Saints tight end this week. I think they can get more work, but with the offensive line’s deficiencies, they could be used more blocking against the Falcons.

No Demario Davis this week, as he will miss his first career game with a hamstring injury. Pete Werner is the best play this week if you’re looking for a linebacker, but also consider Willie Gay Jr. D’Marco Jackson is a free agent who will be available, and he’s looking to take Davis’ snaps. Chase Young and Carl Granderson are also your big plays for the defensive line, as they will often look to get to Kirk Cousins on this day. Bryan Bresee is also a sneaky play with his early season production.

The Saints have managed to force turnovers in all of their games this season, and we hope that trend continues. Tyrann Mathieu and Alontae Taylor would be the two best bets to play in the secondary.

Taysom Hill can be a factor this week against the Falcons

Taysom Hill (2.47 projected points)

I know. I know. Taysom Hill hasn’t hit this season, but it feels like the week is changing. For what? Consider these two elements. To start, Alvin Kamara is injured as I mentioned earlier. They don’t want him to get 29 touches again. The other problem would be that the offensive line would also be disrupted. New Orleans would be smart to give Hill the ball in the running and passing game, and he has had some success against Atlanta in the past. He can create a variety of looks here and will succeed. Let’s put it this way. The Saints need him to hit.
